      Dyslexia Regional Workshop

      The Oklahoma State Department of Education-Special Education Services Division will be hosting regional dyslexia workshops for general and special education teachers in October and November targeting identification and interventions for students with dyslexia. The featured keynote speaker is Dr. David P. Hurford, a psychologist and research scientist who specializes in dyslexia/reading difficulties and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). He is a professor and chair of the Department of Psychology and Counseling at Pittsburg State University and directs the Center for Research, Evaluation and Awareness of Dyslexia (Center for READing) at the same institution. Dr. Hurford will be presenting on the science of reading as well as identification and intervention strategies for the general education and special education classroom. Miss Oklahoma, Addison Price, will be moderating a student panel discussion. Miss Price is representing Oklahoma with her adopted social impact initiative, “Empowering Individuals with Learning Differences through Self-Advocacy.” In elementary school she was diagnosed with Dyslexia and understands the struggles many differently-abled students face.
